FW: update on backpacking trip

Hello everyone: It is about time I sent everyone an update on the trip.
The essential details are below:

Arrive in Jackson, Wyoming on Thursday, July 22nd
Leave Jackson, Wyoming on Thursday July 29th

We will be staying the nights of Thursday July 22nd and Wednesday July
28th at the Elk Country Inn in Jackson. We could not get rooms at the
Cowboy Village. I think I made these reservations in February.

We will head into the mountains on Friday, July 23rd and exit the
mountains on Wednesday, July 28th. Our transportation to the trailhead
is still to be determined. The shuttle we used last year wants about
$1800 to take us and pick up us at the trailhead, so we will probably
have to rent a vehicle.

Right now I think the following individuals are going for sure.
Myself. Paul, Brian, Greg, William, Kas, and Dan. Monica may go and I
am unsure about Doug, Jr. Ben, my brother, will not be going as he will
be on vacation and Brent and Chloe will probably be moving to North
Carolina.

The location of our hike will be the Wind River Indian Reservation,
entering at the St. Lawrence Ranger Station. The Shoshone Indians
charge $85.00 for a combined hiking and fishing permit. We can by those
at two stores in Dubois on the way to the trailhead.

The hike is approximately 16 miles in to an area of about 15 lakes. We
will make a base camp at one lake and then do day trips thereafter. If
people would like we could move the camp once during our stay. The
section where we will be going is on the EarthWalk Southern Half of the
Wind River Mountains. The starting elevation is about 9000 ft and we
will go to about 10,600 feet. It will be possible to take a day trip to
the continental divide and to other fishing lakes. You can get a copy
of the fishing and hiking regulations by going to the following website.

More to follow.

Hello family,

Time has flown by since last summer laughing in the high altitude titcomb
basin. The head count is unknown since nobody has responded to Bobby' s
email. I will be the first!

Thanks for the update on the upcoming trip. The time line and trip itinerary
sounds great, two big days of hiking and then setting up a super base camp
with daytrips galore. Hiking up to the continental divide will be amazing
and a teritory less traveled means great fishing.

So I am buying tickets for Monica and I this weekend and will be ariving
12:30 on the 22 and leaving 6:15 on the 28 of June.

Please feel free to write a confirmation or update on your status.

Now this is decision time.

FW: Backpacking Update

Hello all:
I thought I had sent this email earlier, but I could not find it in my
sent emails. Therefore I am sending it again.

The date is fast approaching when we will all meet in Jackson, WY. All
of the lodging and transportation logistics have been set.
Sunday, July 26th: Arrive in Jackson, WY. I arrive about 12:30 PM
from Salt Lake City. We will be staying at the Cowboy Village in
Jackson. Each of us will need to take a taxi from the airport to the
motel. We have three rooms,; two rooms sleeping five people, and one
sleeping three. Depending on arrival times, taxi fares can be shared.

We will spend Sunday afternoon and evening in Jackson, organizing and
purchasing fishing licenses and last minute food items.

Monday, July 27th: We have a shuttle service taking us to the trail
head. We can schedule this for anytime Monday morning. Right now it is
scheduled for 10:30 AM. Depending on everyone's arrival times, we can
move this us or back as needed.

Monday through Saturday: In the mountains. We are going to the
Titcomb Lakes Basin, which lies just under the Continental Divide.

Saturday, August 1st: Leave the mountains and proceed to Jackson, WY.
We are scheduled to come out of the mountains at about 5 PM with the
shuttle picking us up at that time. We will be spending the night of
August 1st at the Motel 6 in Jackson. I didn't feel we need an upscale
last night; just a shower and a bed would be fine. PIZZA that night.

Sunday, August 2nd: Leave Jackson for home. My flight does not leave
until 1:30 PM.

For final planning purposes and adjusting room reservations in Jackson,
WY we will need a final confirmation of attendance. Also if possible,
please let me know your arrival and departure times into Jackson, WY.
We may have each of you bring one meal for the trip, either freeze-dried
backpacking food for dinner, or materials for lunches. I can take care
of breakfasts. Let me know if this plan might work. You do not have to
do anything yet, but as the trip approaches, I will send out another
email with more instructions as to how this might work.

One detail yet to accomplish, is where we store our clothes we do not
take on the hike. I will work on it this week.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone again. Get in shape as there
are only six weeks left until we leave. Best wishes to everyone and
have a great week.

Dad, brother, uncle, friend, (Bob)

Subject: Update on Wind River Trip

Hello everyone!! An update on the planning for the trip.....

Arrival: Sunday, July 26th

Lodging on the 26th at Cowboy Village in downtown Jackson WY
(Approximately $45.00 each)

Leave Monday AM for mountains (exact time to be determined) via
Shuttle Service out of Pinedale Wyoming They will also pick us up about
6 PM on Saturday August 1st and take us back to Jackson, WY. Cost per
person about $50.00. This was significantly cheaper than renting
multiple automobiles.

Challenges or tasks still remaining:
(1) Lodging on August 1st in Jackson WY. The Cowboy Village was
booked full for that night. I hope to have this done by this week.
(There is a Motel 6 south of Jackson, but I anticipate the cost will
still be about $40 for the night. People will begin to fly out for home
on Sunday, August 2nd.
(2) Place to store our suitcases during the trip. Perhaps the shuttle
service will do this for us. I will ask.
(3) Purchasing the food. We still have some left over from last year
which we will use. I will probably have several of you get specific
items and then we will fill in the gaps at the grocery store in Jackson.
I anticipate the food will cost about $50 per person.

We will need to take a taxi to and from the airport and that is about
$35 each for a roundtrip fare. The grocery store is about 1 mile from
our motel in Jackson and a place to buy a fishing license is about 5
blocks away. There are a plethora of places to eat in Jackson on Sunday
night and Monday AM.

I anticipate we will browse around Jackson on Sunday night prior to
hiking on Monday. This trip should be about $150 more expensive than
our 2008 trip in Utah. I have tried to keep the cost down. Thank Paul
for finding the shuttle service.

Please respond to this email so I will know who all has received it.
Also if you have any suggestions for changes, please let me know. I
know we have three folks possibly coming in on Monday AM and we need to
know these times as soon as possible. We should, if possible, go to the
mountains together.

Best wishes for a continued great week.

2002 Backpacking Trip

The 2002 Bob Smith trip started south of Pinedale at the Boulder Lake Lodge. We rode horses in 14 miles up to elevation where we fished and hiked along the west side of the divide and then came out further south in the Wind Rivers. We had the best golden brown trout fishing I had ever seen. The size of the fish were enormous.
